Project of the Week: Will's Birthday Part 2

Earlier this week,  I did a blog post on Will's birthday cake (http://createsharerepeat.blogspot.com/2011/07/project-of-week-wills-birthday-part-1.html) and as promised, here is all the other random birthday surprises I gave him!

I should start from the beginning. We decided to have a Tubing Birthday party for Will, so naturally I had to work on an image for the e-invite I was sending out. Here it is:

The party was on a Saturday, but his birthday was on the Friday before. To celebrate, we decided to go to see the last Harry Potter at midnight! (SUCH a great/sad movie)

When it turned 12am and Will's birthday, I gave him his first birthday surprise. I had been keeping where we were going for his birthday dinner a secret so that Harry could tell him. :)

FYI: Relashio means to release something from constrained or held.
In this case, it was where we would be going to dinner! :)

That's right... I made a Harry Potter card that had a stick of paper meat in it revealing that I was taking Will to Texas De Brazil for dinner.... :) He was SO excited, and it was an amazing meal! YUM!

After the movie, and a few hours of sleep, I started work on the rest of Will's birthday surprises!

First I decorated the house with Happy Birthday signs, beer decorations, his birthday cake and fun balloons!

Then I set up the birthday present I got him. We both love sushi and just started a sushi making class at LSU. For his birthday, I got him a nice sushi plate set, personalized chopsticks and a sushi book. I also got some sushi from Whole Foods for lunch and some cake sushi from Cake Goddess for dessert!

I love these personalized chopsticks I got him! http://www.hansonellis.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=hansonellis&Product_Code=engraved-chinese-wood-chopsticks

His parents also helped with the sushi surprise! They gave money so that Will can buy any sushi supplies he will need! I decided to get clever with the money... I made it into a little paper sushi roll!

Last thing I would like to share that I got Will for his birthday was a really neat gift I found called a Capcatcher! It is a bottle opener that catches the caps for you. You can mount it to the wall or stick it on the fridge because it has a magnetic back!

You can personalize it!

Will's birthday went great. I love having someone in my life that I can spoil and do fun stuff like this for! Happy Birthday, Will! I love you!

Project of the Week: Will's Birthday Part 1

I may not have been blogging much lately, but it doesn't mean that I haven't been super busy doing projects! I have been working on my boyfriend Will's birthday surprise for a couple of months now. His birthday was this past weekend so I am finally able to post about them. I am going to split his birthday projects into two posts. This one will be about the biggest project, his birthday cake!

Will has been into brewing his own beer for a few months now, so I thought it would be appropriate to make him a beer stein cake!

Will with his cake

This cake was constructed with using, 6" Funfetti cake layers, buttercream icing, marshmallow fondant and rice crisipies. Check out the slide show for pictures!

I loved using marshmallow fondant. It was a little harder to work with than the Wilton premade kind, but the taste was SO much better! Here's the link to the recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/marshmallow-fondant/detail.aspx

Another new product I used was Duff's Cake Graffiti: A spray paint for cake! I used the silver paint for the top of the stein. It worked really well. It can be found at Michael's. http://www.michaels.com/Duff%E2%84%A2-Cake-Graffiti/bk0407,default,pd.html?cgid=products-bakeware-duffgoldman&start=54

That's it for now! Keep an eye out for my next birthday post tomorrow!

Teaser!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I have been working hard on a painting for my kitchen! Here's a little sneak peak!

This is a picture I took to base my painting off of. I went to Albertson's to buy some boiled crawfish and had a crawfish photo shoot in my kitchen! FYI: This crawfish was some of the nastiest, weirdest smelling crawfish I have ever seen. I definitely didn't eat any! EWWW!!

I am very close to completing this painting! Hopefully I can show you the finished product in the next couple of weeks!

I have also been busy preparing for my boyfriend Will's birthday next week. I have a great cake planned! So keep an eye out for that post!

I hope everyone is having a lovely summer. I know I am!

That's all for now, but before I go, I want to leave you with this....

2 and a half months TOO LONG!

Hello everyone!

I would like to apologize for my absence! The months of April and May have been very busy, and haven't left much time to be creative! I have been having a lot of fun though! Especially the first week of May when I went to DISNEY WORLD and THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER!!

I had 4 full, lovely days at Disney World and 2 day at Universal Studios. It was a dream come true! I went to Disney when I was a toddler and didn't remember much. I also went when I was in college, but only for a day... which was pretty much just a tease. So I got to really spend some time at Disney, and I didn't want to leave!  That place truly is magical... I can't wait to go back! Here are just a few pictures for the trip:

Will and I in Magic Kingdom!
I felt like a kid! It was great!

The Rock N' Roller Coaster is the best ride at Disney!
We rode it 5 times!

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Islands of
Adventure was AMAZING! The ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
was the best ride I have ever been on. Fantastic!
At Ollivanders! I got picked for the wand demonstration!
Hogwarts!

Now it is time to get back in the groove of things, and start "Create. Share Repeat!"-ing!! There is one project I worked on during the month of April that I need to post. My baby niece loves these Fisher Price Precious Planet Animals. She gets so excited when she sees the lion and the monkey. So I created these paintings to hang in her room!

I have a couple of projects coming up. One is a painting for my kitchen. I have been planning this painting for a YEAR now! I think the reason I haven't completed is that I lack motivation when I am creating something for myself! If I am doing it for someone else, I make sure it gets done! So hopefully I can really dive into it and make something pretty for my kitchen! I also have a cake coming up in July. It's for Will's birthday! I am really excited about it. Can't tell y'all what it will be yet because it is a surprise!

I am also taking a photography class! It's a leisure class at LSU. I have already had two classes and have one more to go. I really think it's going to help bring my photography skills to the next level!

Again, I am sorry I haven't been updating the past couple of months! Hopefully I will stay on top of it during the summer months!

Project of the Week: Natalie's Christening Cake

Last weekend was my niece Natalie's Christening. I was very happy to be able to make a cake for the occasion. I used Katherine's (my sister-in-law) theme of yellow, blue and daffodils as my inspiration. As you may already know, that has also been the inspiration for my last two blog post: Natalie's Daffodil Pictures and Natalie's Christening invite.

I decided to try something new for this cake. I had never made daffodils before. I have also never made a two tiered cake. This cake was challenging, but mostly time consuming! Especially the flowers! I made 9 of them but ended up using only 3! The flowers and cross are made out of gumpaste, and I mention this because it is VERY important that you use gumpaste to make any 3-D object for a cake. Up north, you could get away with using fondant, or a combo of gumpaste and fondant. Not here. It's too humid in Louisiana. The flowers and cross would have collapsed! So make sure to use gumpaste, my southern friends!

Manly Creations: Will's Projects

That's right. There's an OREO in that cookie! In our house,  I bake cakes, and Will (my boyfriend) bakes the cookies. Though I am to blame for this. I saw this crazy combination on Yahoo recently, and once brought to Will's attention, he couldn't rest until he tried it himself. He made some for a bake sale at work. They were unbelievably good, but I believe that it was due to the fact WILL made them. He is a chocolate chip cookie fanatic, and when he bakes them, I swear he must put a little extra love in there because I haven't found anyone that can make a cookie as well as he can!

All he did was use one of his chocolate chip cookie recipes, made the dough, and stuffed a cookie in there!

Working hard!

My Will has other passions besides his cookies. His latest venture has been beer making! He has tried it on a smaller scale before, but he decided to take a beer making leisure class to get back into it. He just started a Honey Ale. My brother use to be into beer making as well, so Will was able to borrow his equipment. My brother also accompanied him while he made it.

They will be bottling this one soon, and starting on some mead and a darker beer I believe.

I love how Will has his own projects to work on.  It's exciting to live with someone who likes to be creative in his own special way! :)

I hope to post more of his projects on my blog in the future for my male audience!

Project of the Week: Christening Invitation

(Invitation information has been altered for privacy)

Last week I posted some darling pictures I took of my nieces and sister-in-law. If you haven't seen them yet, click HERE! One of the reasons we look these pictures was so I could use them for an invitation for Natalie's Christening. Katherine is having a color theme of yellow and blue for the luncheon afterward so I made sure to carry that over into the invitation.

If you are interested in having me design a custom invite for your party, wedding, etc., please contact me at emily@createsharerepeat.com!

This week I am working on the cake for the christening! I am definitely looking forward to this one. I am really going to challenge myself. Wish me luck! I should have photos up next week!

Project of the Week: Daffodil Photos

So it's been exactly one month since I last posted... one month! I know, I know... I have been slacking! But sometimes you need a creative break. I filled my time with reading, working around the house, cooking, and just being lazy!

No more creative break for me now! I have a few projects this month focused on my baby niece Natalie's Christening. The first thing I thought of was that I would be making the cake and invitation. Then it turned into a photo shoot as well!

I wanted a really nice photo of Natalie for the invitation, and I was really anxious to try out my new camera! So this past Saturday, Katherine and I loaded up the baby and her older sister Maddie and went to one of our favorite places, St. Francisville, LA. There are plenty of beautiful plantation homes in St. Francisville, and we love roaming around the grounds in the beauty gardens surrounded by giant oaks. We brought the girls to one of Katherine's favorite places, Afton Villa. Around March every year, there are over 100,000 daffodils that bloom here. We thought it would make the perfect backdrop for our photo shoot!

We had a blast, and I got some really good shots! Here are some of my favorites:

Keep an eye out next this week for when I post the Christening invitation featuring some of these pictures!
